Point of Pride Commends American Academy of Pediatrics Support for Access to Life-Saving Care for Transgender Young People (clone)
February 17, 2026
In January, the U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments regarding two cases brought against state laws that seek to ban transgender students from participating in school sports, West Virginia v. B.P.J. and Little v. Hecox.
These cases were both introduced by students, transgender girls, who were each denied the right to fair and equal play otherwise enjoyed unquestioned by their cisgender peers. Both cases hinge upon whether restricting rights based on one's gender identity or their assumed sex at birth is in violation of the equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment.
In response to these developments, Point of Pride issued the following statement from Chris Mosier, a trailblazing transgender athlete and board member of Point of Pride:
"For millions of young people, no matter how old they are, playing sports is a source of joy and wellness. It's about embracing the power of movement to uplift our health, of building life-long friendships on the field and learning to believe in your own power.
States across the country have sought to erode the rights, dignity and health of trans and non-binary young people by denying them the joy of sports with their friends.
These laws are never really about sports. They are attacks on our ability to live authentically in every part of our lives, whether that be school or work or simply existing as we are.
Point of Pride will always stand with our community. No matter what the Supreme Court decides, trans youth and athletes will always be here, and we will continue to encourage movement and sports as an important part of health and well-being for all people, especially our trans community."
Point of Pride's mission is help trans youth and adults access necessary, life-saving health and wellness services. To date, Point of Pride has awarded $4,478,500 in financial aid and provided gender-affirming support to 30,000 people in all 50 states and around the world.
