Anna's story

HRT Access Fund recipient

Anna (they/them) is a transmasculine person from Florida navigating significant financial and systemic barriers to accessing HRT. They’ve spoken with their psychiatrist about the stigma and obstacles trans people face in the state, sharing that it often feels like being forced to “jump through hoops like a circus animal” just to receive care. Even making anonymous calls to clinics feels unsafe due to the hostile political climate.

Right now, the only affirming clinic option available would require Anna to travel hours and stay overnight for an in-person visit, a burden that feels nearly impossible. Since 2017, Anna’s mother has worked two jobs to support their family, and despite student loans and maxed-out credit cards, they continue to struggle to make ends meet.

Anna came out as transmasculine in college, but dysphoria and depression soon impacted their mental health and caused them to withdraw from school. They know that starting testosterone would be transformative: “I know it would give me the confidence to help turn my life around for the better.”
