Artie's story

HRT Access Fund recipient

Artie (they/them) is a nonbinary person navigating both financial and systemic barriers to care. Though some providers in their area offer HRT, few are versed in trans healthcare, and new-patient appointments can take up to six months. Artie currently travels over an hour to see a supportive PCP, but without reliable transportation, getting to appointments and lab work is often a struggle. Medicaid limits also prevent them from accessing nearby queer clinics, leaving consistent care uncertain.

Living with their mother in public housing, Artie is unemployed and searching for work while managing student loans and relying on food pantries. “Having HRT has made me feel more confident in facing the world, and I feel like a cloud that has always been over my head has lifted,” they shared. Receiving 12 months of support would provide stability and allow them to keep moving forward with confidence.
