Meet Aurora

Aurora's story
HRT Access Fund recipient
Aurora (she/her) is a trans woman living in Texas. Without health insurance, reliable transportation, or the funds to cover copays and out-of-pocket expenses, she has faced significant barriers to accessing HRT. Past experiences with doctors, often shaped by a religious narrative in her rural hometown, also left her without the support or diagnoses she needed.
Now, even in less isolated areas, Aurora finds that local centers offer limited options, and the costs remain out of reach. She has been unemployed since the pandemic, living with undiagnosed chronic pain and poor mental health that make it difficult to find work. While she has support from siblings and friends, her parents are not affirming of queer rights, leaving her with little family support.
Aurora shared that receiving this grant would be life-changing: “It would be a jump-start into living how I’ve been stuck just hoping I’d be able to for years. It’d be a week of sun in the middle of winter; a promise that one day, spring will come.”
