Corey

Corey's story

HRT Access Fund recipient

Corey (he/him) has faced financial, systemic, and cultural barriers that have made accessing HRT feel impossible. Transportation is another challenge, as Corey doesn’t drive and often walks or bikes for over an hour just to get around.

Growing up mixed-race, cultural expectations around gender deepened his dysphoria and left him without support. Isolation from both dysphoria and mental health struggles has also made fundraising and building community difficult. Despite these challenges, Corey is determined to rebuild his life and is working to start a tailoring business so he can earn a living doing what he loves and eventually afford the care he needs.

Currently unemployed and precariously housed, Corey fears homelessness daily while struggling to meet basic needs. Still, he holds onto hope: “A year of HRT covering meds, labs, and provider visits would be life-changing. It would ease my dysphoria, help me regain independence, and allow me to give back by becoming a staple of trans success and support.”
