Danni's story

HRT Access Fund recipient

Danni (he/they) is a nonbinary parent from Kentucky facing significant barriers to accessing HRT. With few providers in-state offering gender-affirming care, long waitlists, and mobility limits from chronic illness, traveling out of state for treatment is physically and financially impossible. They and their family rely on government programs while Danni manages multiple disabling conditions, focusing on caregiving and day-to-day survival, as their partner is the primary earner. Financial strain is constant: bills compete with basic needs, and Danni often sells plasma to cover small emergencies.

Despite these challenges, Danni remains determined to find stability and to care for their children while also honoring their own identity. Access to consistent, affirming HRT would ease daily dysphoria and make life a little less stressful, helping them show up more fully for family, health, and themselves. As Danni put it, “Finally being able to look in the mirror and see me would be life-changing.”
