Dusk

Dusk's story

HRT Access Fund recipient

Dusk (they/them) is a nonbinary person whose biggest barrier to care is distance. Disabled and using a cane, traveling to appointments takes a heavy toll on them. While their appointments have gone well, Dusk worries about the future, specifically, that upcoming laws could block insurance from covering HRT, leaving them unable to continue treatment.

Living on disability income, Dusk relies on SSI to support both themselves and a close friend. Most months, it isn’t enough to cover rent and essentials, and unexpected medical debt has only added to the struggle. Despite these challenges, Dusk is determined to stay on HRT. They shared, “Twelve months would mean that I will not have to physically detransition. It would mean that the benefits that have made my life significantly less miserable won’t have to stop. It would also mean two years on estrogen by the end of the 12 months, and that brings me joy just thinking about it.”
