Meet Elara

Elara (she/her) is a trans woman from Memphis balancing school, work, and family responsibilities while facing significant barriers to accessing HRT. Despite researching local doctors, she’s found long waitlists just to schedule a consultation. Her part-time job provides limited insurance options that don’t adequately cover gender-affirming care, and switching plans isn’t financially possible.

As the sole provider in her household and a student working toward her high school diploma and LPN certification, Elara’s limited income barely stretches to cover essentials. “Twelve months of HRT support would alleviate this immense financial burden, allowing me to focus on my education and well-being, fostering stability and finally enabling this crucial step in my transition,” she shared.
