Gloria's story

HRT Access Fund recipient

Gloria (she/her) is a trans immigrant from Honduras, living in Texas without health insurance and facing immense financial hardship. She is a single mother caring for her 11-month-old daughter while her partner, also a trans immigrant from Honduras, is detained in ICE detention. She faces immense challenges, compounded by systemic discrimination, language barriers, and a lack of accessible gender-affirming care.

She has never had the privilege of consistent, uninterrupted access to hormones, and the repeated gaps in care have deeply impacted her mental health. Gloria explained, “I need hormones urgently and I am having strong dysphoria because of not being able to access them. My need is great, I don’t have work or support. I am her mom even though society says I’m not.”

Despite immense obstacles, Gloria is determined to provide for her daughter and remain strong while her family is separated. Receiving 12 months of HRT support would bring her relief, stability, and affirmation during one of the most difficult times of her life.
