Meet Jone

Jone's story
HRT Access Fund recipient
Jone (she/her) is a trans woman living in Kentucky, where recent legislation has eliminated Medicaid coverage for HRT and created months-long waitlists for care. Even when she’s been able to schedule, local providers have denied her services because of her gender.
On top of these systemic barriers, Jone faces financial challenges. After giving birth to her child in 2023, her employer refused to reinstate her position when parental leave ended. Since then, she’s struggled to secure steady work while also caring for her baby and supporting her mother. Without income or access to assistance programs, she’s been borrowing money to get by, leaving little possibility of affording gender-affirming care.
Despite these hardships, Jone holds onto her vision of transition and stability for herself and her family. “It seems to me like my transition is becoming impossible,” she wrote. Support for HRT would offer her a vital chance to move forward with dignity, well-being, and hope.
