Meet Kian

Kian's story
HRT Access Fund recipient
Kian (he/him) is an 18-year-old Indigenous trans man living in a small town. As an autistic young adult, he has faced barriers to being taken seriously both because of his disability and his identity. Reliable transportation is also a challenge, as neither he nor his disabled mother can drive.
Despite these obstacles, Kian recently secured his first job after being denied opportunities in the past because of his identity. Most of his income goes toward saving for a car and paying for rides to and from work, making the cost of gender-affirming care feel far out of reach, especially since most providers near him don’t accept his insurance.
Kian shared, “I know I won’t be able to afford HRT for a long time, but I’ve dreamed of transitioning since I was little. This grant will finally give me the chance to become the person I know I am.”
