Meet Kristi

Kristi's story
HRT Access Fund recipient
Kristi (she/her) is a 48-year-old transfemme woman living in a state with significant political and systemic barriers to trans care. Financial limitations are her greatest challenge: as a disabled person, Kristi relies on SSDI for income, which barely covers food, housing, and transportation. Without support, affording HRT would mean choosing between basic needs and her transition. Limited transportation also makes in-person appointments difficult, making online providers a more realistic option.
Despite these obstacles, Kristi remains determined to move forward in her journey. “Receiving this award would mean finally being able to start the next chapter of my life and become the person I have dreamed of since I was little,” she wrote. Access to HRT would offer her the chance to live more fully as herself, bringing long-awaited relief and affirmation.
