Olive's story

HRT Access Fund recipient

Olive (he/she) is a 56-year-old bigender transfemme person living in Tennessee, where Medicaid will not cover HRT. Though she is eager to begin her transition, financial and medical barriers have made accessing care nearly impossible. Living with HIV and on disability, Olive’s limited income is already stretched thin, leaving her unable to cover the initial costs of starting HRT.

For Olive, support would mean much more than transition; it would also ease the strain of living with HIV and osteoporosis, while finally allowing her to live more comfortably in her body. “I have always been effeminate and am tired of putting on pants that never fit me. I would be grateful forever to receive help,” she shared.
