Pat's story

HRT Access Fund recipient

Pat (they/them) is an agender person living in Miami and currently unemployed. Local programs will subsidize visits and testing but not medication, so paying for HRT is out of reach. Without reliable transportation, most clinics are effectively inaccessible. As a DACA recipient in a mixed-status household, Pat is also worried about increased ICE and police activity in areas where care would require travel, which makes in-person appointments risky.

Pat moved back to Florida while trying to rebuild, but losing access to the healthcare marketplace because of immigration status has made progress difficult. They have been searching for work nonstop and supporting others for years, and now they are trying to choose themselves. Twelve months of funded HRT would provide stability and a real chance to care for their own health and well being. “Right now everything feels out of my control, so 12 months of support would give me stability and a real chance to care for myself,” they shared.
