Popcorn's story
HRT Access Fund recipient
Popcorn (he/they) is a BIPOC trans person who has been unable to access HRT for several months due to financial and logistical barriers. Living in Atlanta without a car, traveling to appointments is nearly impossible, and local Planned Parenthood centers don’t provide HRT. Virtual care is the only viable option, but the costs have been overwhelming.
Popcorn lives with their mom, and while they don’t have to pay rent, money is tight. His mom often has to ask others for help, and Popcorn’s own paycheck barely stretches to cover food and other necessities. The cost of HRT has pushed care out of reach despite his efforts to raise funds.
He shared, “I haven’t been on T for about 4–5 months now, and my mental health has been going downhill. I feel like an imposter sometimes. When I was on HRT, I felt like myself. Receiving this support would mean I could finally feel happy and whole again.”
