Meet River

River's story
HRT Access Fund recipient
River (they/them, ey/em) is an androgynous nonbinary transmasc parent who has faced numerous barriers to starting HRT. After losing their job earlier this year, their insurance has been unstable, and transportation challenges have made it nearly impossible to attend in-person appointments. Past negative healthcare experiences have also made it hard to find providers they trust.
As the primary caregiver for their 16-month-old son, River’s limited unemployment income goes toward housing and food, leaving little room for medical expenses. Debt and financial stress have made affording HRT feel out of reach.
River shared, “Having this support means the difference between me getting HRT and not. It would allow me to finally feel more secure with myself while still caring for my family.”
