Tyler's story

HRT Access Fund recipient

Tyler (he/they) is a nonbinary transmasc person living in a small, conservative town with no local HRT providers. The closest option is a Planned Parenthood about 30 miles away, but Tyler cannot drive and the household only borrows a car occasionally. Tyler and his wife are full-time unpaid caregivers for an elderly, disabled family member, which makes leaving the house difficult and regular appointments nearly impossible.

Financially, Tyler has no personal income; the household's communal funds cover basic needs but could never pay for consistent HRT. He first started testosterone in 2018 and says it was life-changing, giving him a sense of a future for the first time. Since then, instability has forced him to go on and off treatment, and he has never stayed on a full dose for a full year. Twelve months of supported HRT would mean stability, freedom from repeated withdrawals, and the chance to build the life he has been working toward.

“For the first time in my seven-year medical transition I will have what I always dreamed of to simply be me,” he shared.
