Vic's story

HRT Access Fund recipient

Vic (he/they) lives in New Mexico, where testosterone gel is not available locally. For Vic, gel offers important benefits over injections: more stable hormone levels, less needle anxiety, and better absorption. The lack of this option forces Vic to accept a suboptimal treatment or travel long distances to access the medication they need.

Vic is on a fixed disability income, so every dollar matters. Testosterone gel is expensive and out of reach on disability alone, and going without hormones intensifies dysphoria, depression, and physical decline. Access to 12 months of supported HRT would relieve a major financial burden and help stabilize Vic’s mental and physical health. Vic describes gender-affirming care as medically necessary for their well-being.

An artist and animal lover who performs drag, Vic finds meaning in creative expression and community. “Being on testosterone would help my depression and anxiety and make my mood more stable,” they shared.
