  • 1 in 2 people served are living with a disability or chronic illness.
  • 2 in 3 people served are living in high-risk states for anti-trans legislation.
  • 88% of all garment requests come from trans young people under the age of 24.
  • Since 2019, we have proudly maintained GuideStar’s Platinum rating, their highest recognition for transparency and accountability. As of 2021, we have also maintained Charity Navigator’s highest rating of 4 stars.

Board Member Responsibilities

Joining our Board is a unique opportunity to be part of something transformative—to help change and save trans lives through access to necessary healthcare.

As a board member, you play an essential governance and ambassadorial role, helping steward the vision, strategy, and long-term sustainability of Point of Pride. The board meets every other month, and members contribute their expertise through strategic oversight, thoughtful guidance, and amplifying our mission within their networks. The average time commitment is approximately 2–5 hours per month.

What are the full requirements?

Each board member is expected to…

  • Read and understand our Mission & Bylaws, follow Point of Pride’s policies, and stay up-to-date on our mission, services, and programs.
  • Attend six board meetings over the course of the year (January, March, May, July, September, and November.) These meetings are typically held on the third Tuesday of the month at 6:30pm ET to accommodate members in every time zone.
  • Help the board fulfill its fiduciary and governance duties by ensuring the organization is managed responsibly.
  • Stay in regular contact with staff and board members by reading and sharing updates throughout the month via email, text, and/or Basecamp, our project management and communication platform.
  • Act as an ambassador of the organization, particularly with prospective supporters and when in LGBTQ+ or intersectional spaces.
  • Make a personally meaningful annual financial contribution and actively support fundraising efforts. As a board, we share a collaborative goal of raising at least $5,000 each year through a combination of personal giving and community outreach.*

*Please note while each Board Member is encouraged to contribute an amount that is meaningful for them, this policy is not intended to be a barrier to membership. If you have questions or concerns regarding the Give/Get policy, let us know and we can discuss it.

Board members with the bandwidth and desire to get more involved are encouraged to also…

  • Attend other meetings to discuss programs, policies, and operations at a deeper level.
  • Contribute to Point of Pride’s fundraising, thought leadership, and programmatic efforts by providing support or expertise to other team members.
  • Attend trainings and events, review online resources on non-profit board member duties and responsibilities, and share your insights with the board.
  • Suggest potential nominees to the board who can make significant contributions to the organization.
  • Help with our grantmaking process by reviewing applications for our financial aid programs or assisting in selecting recipients.

A Unique Opportunity to Contribute

Becoming a board member offers the chance to contribute to meaningful change and help ensure that trans people, particularly those in marginalized communities, receive the vital support they deserve. Every decision we make and every dollar we raise helps change and save lives in our trans community.

Your expertise and passion can make a lasting impact—we hope you'll join our team and help drive meaningful change for our community.

As we continue to cultivate a board of directors that truly reflects the diverse communities we serve, we are currently invite-only. This approach ensures that we can thoughtfully and strategically invite individuals who are members of under-represented minority communities, including trans femme individuals, people of color, and those living with disabilities.
