Point of Pride Condemns Supreme Court Upholding Ban on Trans Healthcare

June 18, 2025
Today, the Supreme Court issued its ruling in United States v. Skrmetti, allowing Tennessee’s ban on gender-affirming healthcare for transgender youth to stand. While narrow in scope, the decision opens the door for further legislative attacks on medically necessary care—eroding the rights, dignity, and safety of trans and non-binary young people across the country.
Gender-affirming care is widely recognized by every major U.S. medical association as essential, evidence-based treatment for people of all ages. This ruling disregards both that medical consensus and decades of legal precedent.
Point of Pride is the only national organization of its kind providing life-saving access to gender-affirming healthcare across the United States. We remain steadfast in our mission, and to every person whose healthcare has been politicized and threatened.
“This is an incredibly painful day for trans young people and the families who love and support them. The Supreme Court has failed in its most basic duty: to protect the rights and freedoms of vulnerable people from political overreach,” said Jeff Main, Executive Director and co-founder of Point of Pride. “This only deepens our commitment to the work ahead. Our organization was founded to ensure that trans people—especially those most at risk—can access the care they need to be healthy and thrive. We will continue to meet this moment, and support those impacted, with clarity, compassion, and courage.”
“To trans and non-binary youth: we see you. We believe in you. You deserve love, support, and the freedom to live as your full self. This ruling is unjust, but it does not define your worth,” said Aydian Dowling, Chief Advancement Officer and co-founder of Point of Pride. “Our community has never depended on the approval of courts or legislatures to exist. We are held together by love. We are here because we never stop showing up for one another.”
Point of Pride's mission is help trans youth and adults access necessary, life-saving health and wellness services. To date, Point of Pride has awarded $3,657,750 in financial aid and provided gender-affirming support to 29,000 people in all 50 states and around the world.
