Meet Adi

Adi's story
Electrolysis Support Fund recipient
Adi's (she/her) journey to access electrolysis care as a trans woman preparing for vaginoplasty has been marked by persistent financial insecurity, which has made affording treatment nearly impossible. Without stable income, she has also struggled to secure reliable transportation to reach the few providers in her area. These barriers have delayed her care and added stress to an already emotionally and physically demanding process. Despite these challenges, Adi continues to seek support and resources to move forward in her transition.
Adi is a radiant soul with a profound love for humanity and an infectious joie de vivre that lights up every space she enters. Her open-hearted nature invites connection, and her creativity shines through her work as an author, poet, and proficient guitarist. A deeply spiritual person, Adi finds her greatest resonance in Hindu teachings, drawing strength and peace from their wisdom.
Receiving gender-affirming healthcare would profoundly ease Adi’s day-to-day life by relieving the intense gender dysphoria caused by her facial hair, allowing her to move through the world with greater confidence and comfort. It would also remove a major financial barrier standing between her and bottom surgery, bringing her one step closer to feeling at home in her body. This care would not only affirm her identity but also free up emotional and mental energy currently consumed by distress and survival.

What is it?
Point of Pride provides grants to trans masc people seeking hair removal on an area of their body in preparation for bottom surgery.
What is life like for a person who needs this care?
Electrolysis and laser hair removal services are often deemed cosmetic and therefore not covered by health insurance plans, even if such services are medical prerequisites for a covered surgery. For people who cannot afford hair removal, they are stuck without options to move forward with their healthcare needs.
What is the impact of this care on the recipient’s life?
After completing hair removal, these folks are able to move forward with their surgeries. In itself, this often leads to a more positive emotional well-being, increased confidence, and more.
