Meet Eric

Eric's story
HRT Access Fund recipient
Eric (he/they) is a 23-year-old trans man who has wanted to start HRT since realizing he was trans at the age of 13. For years, barriers related to family, health, and finances prevented him from accessing care. At 19, when he left for college, Eric was finally able to receive some gender-affirming support in the form of a binder. The binder was life-changing, but he knew HRT was still the missing piece in helping him feel truly like himself.
Eric is an outgoing, fun person who loves to laugh. In his free time, he enjoys baking and cooking, crafting, video games, biking in nature, and going on adventures with his partner. Music is another passion, whether listening to favorite songs on repeat or playing them on the keyboard or guitar.
Eric shared, “Receiving HRT means I can finally start living life without hiding who I am. I’ve waited a decade for this, and with Point of Pride’s support, I don’t have to worry about affording the care I’ve always needed. Everyone will finally be able to see me for who I’ve always been.”

What is it?
Testosterone+ refers to the gender-affirming hormone replacement therapy (HRT) methods that some trans men, trans masc, and non-binary people take that result in physical changes which align with their gender identity. Every person's preferences and personal healthcare needs vary, so this can include oral medications, injections, and transdermal patches.
How accessible is it for trans folks to receive this care?
For trans folks who live in states most impacted by anti-trans healthcare legislation, it can be extremely difficult to find a knowledgeable, trans-affirming provider as well as access prescription medication. Many insurance plans do not cover HRT. For trans folks without insurance coverage, the ongoing out-of-pocket expense can be challenging.
What is the impact of this care on the recipient’s life?
Testosterone+ introduces a wide range of masculinizing physical, emotional, and psychological changes that align with their gender identity. This often leads to a more positive emotional well-being, increased confidence, increased safety when in public, and better opportunities at employment and more.
