Meet Maxfield

Maxfield's story
HRT Access Fund recipient
Maxfield (they/them) is a 58-year-old disabled trans person who has been on hormones for a decade. After fleeing Florida, Maxfield now lives in their car while trying to rebuild life in a safer state. With Medicaid waitlists stretching over a year, they’ve often had to pay out of pocket, choosing between food and medication, until receiving support through this program.
Beyond their trans identity, Maxfield is a writer, educator, and maker. They facilitate peer support groups for autistic adults, write essays and books, and create art and handmade items. “This support means I no longer have to choose between eating and maintaining gender-affirming hormones,” Maxfield shared. With stability, they can focus on serving their community, telling stories, and building a more sustainable future.
