Meet Sammie

Sammie (she/they) is a 31-year-old disabled nonbinary trans woman taking steady steps in her transition. Living with and relying on her father, who does not accept her gender identity, has made accessing care extremely difficult. She was able to begin HRT once before, but the costs soon became unmanageable, leaving her waiting years to continue her journey.

Sammie is passionate about creative expression and enjoys Dungeons & Dragons, video games, and film and TV production. She hopes one day to return to school to study photography, filmmaking, and post-production.

“I remember shaking when I got the acceptance and saw just how generous this grant was; speechless,” Sammie shared. “It’s been such a long time since I was given a break, and I can’t explain just how overjoyed I am being given this opportunity to jump back into my transition.”
