Garment Program Packing Assistant (Part-Time)

 

Point of Pride is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports the international transgender community through direct service programs. From 2016 to 2022 we were volunteer-run by a trans-led board, and today we’re growing a small, dedicated staff team. We believe that in a world focused on our hardship, fostering trans joy is a radical act.

Our garment programs send free gender-affirming chest binders and femme shapewear to trans people who need them, at no cost to them. These programs have served more than 30,000 people so far. For many recipients, a binder or a piece of shapewear is the first garment that lets them feel at home in their body.

We’re looking for a part-time Packing Assistant in the Newark, Delaware area to help get these garments into more people’s hands more quickly. You’ll report to our Director of Programs. The work is hands-on and mostly routine, and it makes a real difference to everyone who opens one of these packages.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Sort and organize garment inventory by manufacturer, color, style and size
  • Fold garments and pack them into mailing envelopes for each order
  • Verify and log inventory in a web-based inventory management system

No formal work experience or education is required, and we are looking for someone who:

  • Lives in or near Newark, Delaware. This is a work-from-home position. Point of Pride staff will drop off garments and packing supplies at your designated work location and arrange to pick up completed orders and remaining supplies. You’ll need a suitable space where you can store inventory, organize garments, and pack orders comfortably and efficiently. This could be your home or another location you arrange, as long as it’s appropriate for the work and you’re comfortable using it for this purpose.
  • Pays close attention to detail and enjoys work that’s steady and repeatable
  • Is dependable and can manage their own time
  • Cares about the trans community and believes everyone deserves to feel affirmed in their body!

Physical requirements:

Here’s what the job involves physically, so you can decide if it’s right for you:

  • Lifting and carrying boxes or containers that weigh up to 50 lbs
  • Folding garments and putting them into envelopes by hand, over and over, for stretches of time
  • Standing or sitting for long periods while you pack

Schedule & compensation:

  • $18 per hour, up to 10 hours per week, not to exceed 40 hours per month
  • Hours can change a little from week to week depending on our order volume as well as what works for you
  • Flexible schedule, worked out together with the Director of Programs
  • W-2 (Not eligible for benefits)
