FAQs
What is a DAF?
A Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) is like a charitable investment account that helps you support the causes you care about.
You can contribute money to your DAF, receive an immediate tax benefit, and then recommend grants to nonprofits—like Point of Pride—whenever you’re ready.
Your fund is managed by a sponsoring organization (often a financial institution or community foundation) that handles the administrative details, so you can focus on your giving goals.
DAFs make it easy to plan and manage your charitable donations over time—like a savings account for giving—and they’ve become one of the fastest-growing ways people support the organizations they love.
How do DAFs work?
When you contribute to a DAF, your donation is irrevocable—meaning it permanently goes toward charitable purposes. The sponsoring organization (often a financial institution or community foundation) takes legal control of the funds and manages them for you.
You’ll receive an immediate tax deduction for your gift, and you can then recommend grants to charities right away or over time. The sponsoring organization takes care of all the details, including reviewing charities and sending out the grants on your behalf.
