In Face of Politicized Attacks on Trans Healthcare, Point of Pride Announces Community-Led Health Survey

May 1, 2025
Today, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released a 400+ page report that undermines access to gender-affirming healthcare for trans youth—without consulting trans people or the nation’s leading medical experts. In response, Point of Pride is proud to announce the upcoming launch of a national health survey, created by and for the trans community.
Planning for the survey began long before today’s politically motivated report—because our lives deserve more than agenda-driven policy and deeply flawed science disguised as evidence. We believe our community deserves accurate data, affirming care, and the right to be heard.
Led by an all-trans and non-binary steering committee of diverse backgrounds, this initiative reflects the leadership and lived experience of those who know this issue best. The team includes professionals, health researchers, advocates, and organizers working at the intersection of trans justice and health equity.
“This survey is built by and for trans people, with the intention of creating a future where trans health is rooted in safety, access, joy, and autonomy,” said Aydian Dowling, Chief Advancement Officer and co-founder of Point of Pride. “The goal of this survey is to collect meaningful, community-driven data that can directly inform future programs, policies, and initiatives. We believe it's time to put trans health in the hands of the people who live it.”

The survey is designed to foster:
- Positive Experiences: Capture the affirming, supportive care trans people have received—experiences that lead to greater access and better health outcomes.
- Access: Identify the barriers that still exist, helping to pave the way toward more equitable, affirming systems of care.
- Education and Empowerment: Develop resources for both trans community members and healthcare providers—helping patients to navigate complex systems while also supporting providers in offering holistic, respectful, and informed care.
- Community-Driven Data: Make sure the data is shaped by, and accountable to, the community it represents.
“We’re collecting both qualitative and quantitative insights so we can better understand not just the barriers trans people face, but also what it looks like when care is joyful, accessible, and affirming,” said Jeff Main, Executive Director and co-founder of Point of Pride. “All of this work is in service of a single goal: helping our community thrive.”
